In this post I will tell you how to effectively moisturize your skin with Orientana cosmetics in spring. We have many moisturizing cosmetics that are tailored to your complexion - because moisturizing is a must-have for your skin!

Spring is the time when everything comes to life – nature blooms, the days get longer, and we gain more energy to act. It is also a great time to take care of our skin renewal after winter. As a beautician, I often observe how the autumn-winter period affects the condition of my clients' skin – the skin is dry, gray, dull and lacks radiance.

Cold air, wind, frost and dry air in heated rooms weaken the skin's protective barrier and significantly reduce the level of moisture. This is why spring is the perfect time to focus on intensive moisturising, which is key to restoring the skin's freshness, healthy colour and radiant appearance.

Proper hydration is the foundation of any effective care – regardless of age or skin type. In my office, I always emphasize that it is hydration that makes the skin more elastic, smooth and resistant to irritation. Today I will tell you how to prepare your skin for spring step by step and why it is worth choosing care based on hydration.

Skin that lacks moisture, or dehydrated skin, can occur in any skin type – dry, oily, combination or normal. It is a condition, not a skin type, and is often confused with dry skin. It is usually after winter, in spring, that we reach for moisture to “fix” the skin changes that occurred in the winter.

How does skin that lacks moisture behave?

Skin deprived of proper hydration quickly shows its signs – it becomes tense, rough, dull and even flaky. Lack of water in the epidermis leads to significant dehydration wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth. This is often accompanied by irritation, redness and a feeling of discomfort.

Interestingly, oily skin can also be dehydrated – it produces excess sebum to compensate for the lack of moisture. Proper hydration becomes key, which restores skin elasticity, radiance and a healthy look, and also improves the absorption of cosmetics and increases their effectiveness.

A feeling of tension and tightness

One of the first and most characteristic symptoms of dehydrated skin is a feeling of tightness, especially after washing your face or bathing. The skin may feel too "tight", as if it were a size too small. People with dehydrated skin often describe feeling discomfort just a few minutes after washing, even if they use gentle products.

Roughness, dullness and loss of shine

Dehydrated skin is often dull, lacking the natural glow that is a sign of health and good skin condition. It can be rough, rough to the touch, and even slightly flaky in some places - especially on the cheeks, around the nose or on the forehead. Even if a slight shine appears during the day, it is more the effect of excess sebum than a healthy glow.

Visible fine lines and dehydration wrinkles

Even young people can notice so-called "dehydration wrinkles," very fine lines that usually appear where the skin is thin—around the eyes, mouth, or forehead. These lines are the result of the epidermis temporarily "shrinking" when it doesn't have enough water. They usually disappear quickly after proper hydration.

Redness, irritation, sensitivity

Dehydrated skin is much more susceptible to irritation. It can easily react with redness, burning or itching to changes in temperature, weather conditions and even to normally tolerated cosmetics. The skin's protective barrier is weakened, which facilitates the penetration of irritants from the outside.

Oily but Dehydrated - Confusing Symptoms

Interestingly, dehydration very often affects oily and combination skin! Then the skin is shiny (because the skin tries to compensate for the lack of water by producing more sebum), and at the same time it is unpleasantly tight and dry to the touch. Many people then mistakenly reach for mattifying and drying cosmetics, which only deepens the problem of dehydration.

Poor absorption of cosmetics, lack of comfort

Another sign of dehydration is the feeling that skincare “isn’t working.” Even after applying a cream, the skin quickly becomes dry and tight again, as if everything is being soaked in immediately. Cosmetics often don’t leave a feeling of comfort, and the skin seems constantly “thirsty.”

Peeling and rough spots

Dehydrated skin can flake, even if it is not typical dry skin. This most often affects the nose, chin, forehead, and sometimes cheeks. This flaking results from a disturbed process of keratinization of the epidermis, which is not properly moisturized.

Why does the skin need hydration after winter?

Winter is an exceptionally demanding time for our skin. The cold air outside, frost and strong wind lead to micro-damage to the protective layer of the epidermis. In turn, heated rooms and dry air indoors cause water to evaporate from the skin surface even faster.

As a result, the skin becomes dehydrated, prone to irritation, often burning and itching. Many of my patients notice a loss of elasticity, the appearance of fine lines or roughness after winter - these are typical symptoms of dehydration, not only in dry skin, but also in oily and combination skin.

Even people who don't usually have problems with dry skin may notice its condition worsening at the turn of the seasons. This is a natural reaction to changes in temperature, humidity, and the transition from a closed environment to fresh air. For this reason, spring is a time when it is worth rebuilding your skincare routine, focusing on products that provide effective hydration.

Moisturizing is also needed in the summer – more than you think

Although summer is associated with healthy, radiant skin, in reality the skin also loses water intensively during this period. High temperature, exposure to the sun, bathing in salty or chlorinated water and air conditioning - all these factors contribute to dehydration of the epidermis . Additionally, under the influence of UV radiation, the hydrolipid barrier weakens, which further accelerates the escape of moisture from the deeper layers of the skin. As a result, the complexion may be tense, rough and even red, although it visually appears shiny. Therefore, in the summer, regardless of the type of skin, it is worth reaching for light but effectively moisturizing formulas that replenish water deficits and strengthen the skin's protective barrier.

What is the difference between dehydration and dry skin?

It is worth remembering that dehydration is not the same as dry skin. Even oily skin can be dehydrated! Dehydration is a temporary condition associated with a lack of water in the epidermis, while dry skin is a type that lacks not only water, but primarily lipids (i.e. fats that build a natural protective barrier).

What causes skin dehydration?

The cause of dehydration can be both external factors and mistakes in skin care. The most common are: air conditioning, heating, UV radiation, too little water, the use of strong cleansing or exfoliating products, as well as long, hot baths and showers.

How to care for dehydrated skin?

The most important thing is to use light but strongly moisturizing cosmetics that bind water in the epidermis (e.g. hyaluronic acid, trehalose and our discovery - the tremella fungus). Avoid aggressive detergents, alcohol and intensive exfoliation. It is also worth drinking an adequate amount of water and protecting the skin from unfavorable weather conditions.

The role of hydration in skin care

Hydration is a key element of healthy care – regardless of skin type and age. Well-hydrated epidermis is a protective shield that defends us against external factors, allergens and pollution. The right level of hydration makes the skin firmer, smoother, radiant and resistant to irritation.

As a beautician, I often come across the myth that only dry skin requires moisturising. Nothing could be further from the truth! Oily or combination skin can also be dehydrated, and often needs strong moisturising to regain balance. Lack of moisturising leads to compensatory secretion of more sebum, which makes the skin shiny and imperfections appear more easily. Good moisturising regulates these processes and helps maintain a healthy appearance.

What's more, the right amount of water in the epidermis supports natural regeneration processes, soothes redness and reduces the feeling of discomfort. That's why it's so important not to skip this step in your daily routine, and in spring, especially take care of intensive moisturizing care.

Active ingredients that provide effective hydration

Modern cosmetology offers a wide range of active substances that can effectively bind and retain water in the epidermis. One of the most important ingredients is hyaluronic acid - a natural polysaccharide present in our skin, which can bind up to a thousand times more water than it weighs. Thanks to this, it guarantees deep, long-lasting hydration and smoothing of the complexion.

Equally valuable are substances such as trehalose , beta-glucan or allantoin . They act like "water magnets", binding moisture from the environment and transporting it to the deeper layers of the skin. In turn, aloe and panthenol not only moisturize, but also soothe irritations and accelerate the regeneration of the epidermis, which is especially important after winter.

It is also worth looking for ceramides in cosmetics, which rebuild the skin's lipid barrier, preventing water loss, as well as light vegetable oils, such as grape seed oil or jojoba. This combination of humectants (moisturizing substances) and emollients (fat-replenishing substances) creates balanced care, ideal for spring.

The world of cosmetology is constantly looking for ingredients that will provide the skin with intensive, deep hydration and improve its condition in a natural way. One of such extraordinary discoveries in recent years is the Tremella fuciformis fungus, also known as the "beauty fungus" or "white fungus". Although this is a relatively new discovery for modern science, in Asia, and especially in traditional Chinese medicine, tremella has been valued for hundreds of years.

Tremella has held an important place in Asian herbal medicine for centuries. In China, it is called the “elixir of youth” and was used in both cooking and beauty care. In ancient recipes, it was recommended for women who wanted to maintain smooth, clear and radiant skin. There are records of empresses and aristocrats regularly taking tremella extracts, believing that they delayed the signs of aging and provided the skin with long-lasting moisture.

Modern cosmetology has confirmed that Tremella fuciformis extract has exceptional water-binding properties in the epidermis. The polysaccharide molecules present in this fungus have an ability to retain water even stronger than hyaluronic acid, which until now was considered the gold standard in skin moisturising. Additionally, Tremella polysaccharides create a delicate, protective film on the skin surface, which protects it from moisture loss, and at the same time does not weigh it down or cause a sticky feeling.

Scientific research also indicates that tremella has anti-inflammatory properties, supports skin regeneration and can soothe irritations, making it an ideal ingredient not only for dry skin, but also for sensitive, dehydrated skin or skin with a disturbed hydrolipid barrier.

Cosmetics with the addition of tremella are quickly gaining popularity both in Asia and on the world market. This ingredient not only intensively moisturizes, but also improves skin elasticity, smoothes fine lines and restores natural glow. Moisturizing and different skin types – a beautician's perspective

As a beautician, I often emphasize that the right level of hydration is the absolute basis for healthy, beautiful skin - regardless of its type. I often come across the belief that only dry skin needs intensive hydration, and oily or combination skin should be primarily mattified and "degreased". Nothing could be further from the truth! Every skin type needs hydration, although in a slightly different way and using different formulas or ingredients. Below I will present moisturizing cosmetics divided into skin types.

Normal skin

This is an ideal that is rarely found in adulthood. Normal skin is smooth, soft, has the right level of moisture, is not shiny and does not dry out. However, even normal skin requires a regular supply of moisturisers to maintain this balance. Light moisturisers and delicate serums work well for this type of skin – so as not to burden the skin but to constantly support it.

Dry skin

This is the type of skin that most quickly “cries out” for moisture. Dry skin is often tense, rough, and can flake. It lacks both water and lipids (fats), which is why it dehydrates quickly, loses elasticity, ages faster, and is prone to irritation. In the case of dry skin, I recommend cosmetics rich in humectants (i.e. water-binding ingredients, e.g. hyaluronic acid, glycerin) and emollients (e.g. natural oils, vegetable butters), which additionally seal the protective barrier and prevent water loss.

Oily skin

This is the skin that is most often shiny, especially in the T-zone, has visible pores and a tendency to imperfections. Contrary to appearances, oily skin is very often... dehydrated! Too aggressive care, matting and cleansing can lead to the problem getting worse - the skin starts producing even more sebum, trying to defend itself against water loss. That is why oily skin requires light but effective moisturising - gel creams, light emulsions or serums with hyaluronic acid, aloe or tremella will be ideal here. It is worth avoiding heavy, comedogenic ingredients that could clog pores.

It is estimated that approximately 30–40% of women have oily skin – with overproduction of sebum, enlarged pores and a tendency to imperfections.

Oily skin does not exclude dehydration . On the contrary, women with oily skin often overuse strongly cleansing cosmetics, which leads to dehydration of the epidermis (i.e. lack of water despite excess sebum).

According to some industry sources (e.g., cosmetology consultation reports), up to 50–60% of people with oily skin may have dehydrated, or "unmoisturized," skin .

Combination skin

This is a combination of oily skin (usually in the T-zone) and dry or normal skin (on the cheeks, temples). It requires care adapted to the different needs of the skin. Light moisturizing creams with properties that regulate sebum and support the protective barrier work best here. It is also worth including spot serums or masks - some for the T-zone, others for dry cheeks. It is important not to skip moisturizing any part of the face!

Additional skin types and hydration

Sensitive skin

It can occur with any basic type and requires special care for hydration and protection. Sensitive skin is prone to irritation, redness, burning, allergic reactions. In care, delicate moisturizing ingredients (e.g. panthenol, allantoin, trehalose), cosmetics with a simple, hypoallergenic composition and no irritating substances are key here.

Capillary skin

Thin, delicate, with visible capillaries, often reacting to temperature changes and stress. Proper hydration is equally important here - it helps strengthen the skin barrier and reduce reactivity. Light moisturizing creams with the addition of ingredients that soothe and seal the capillaries (e.g. vitamin C, rutin) will work well.

Acne skin

Usually oily or combination, with a tendency to inflammation and imperfections. Unfortunately, many people with this type of skin avoid moisturizing, which leads to its worsening! Moisturizing soothes inflammation, improves healing, and the right ingredients (e.g. niacinamide, azelaic acid, trehalose, hyaluronic acid) not only do not clog pores, but actually support skin health.

This is the type of skin that loses elasticity with age, becomes thinner, wrinkles appear, and firmness and radiance are lost. As a beautician, I emphasize that proper skin hydration is not a luxury, but an absolute necessity – regardless of skin type. Both dry and oily skin, combination, sensitive or mature skin, need a constant supply of water and support for the natural protective barrier. Moisturized skin is healthier skin, more resistant to irritation, radiant and elastic.

Let's remember that care is not only about products - it is also about healthy habits: proper hydration of the body, avoiding harmful external factors and a conscious approach to the needs of your own skin.
