Sandalwood (Santalum album) is a valued cosmetic ingredient native to India and Southeast Asia. The raw material is primarily known as the source of precious sandalwood oil. Sandalwood is obtained from the wood and roots of the sandalwood tree through steam distillation, which preserves its high content of active substances. Properties of sandalwood oil: Sandalwood oil contains unique compounds, such as α-santalol (50–60%) and β-santalol (20–25%), which are responsible for its powerful effects: • antiseptic – helps fight skin infections; • anti-inflammatory – soothes the symptoms of acne, eczema, and psoriasis; • antibacterial – supports the balance of the skin's microbiome. Thanks to these properties, sandalwood cosmetics effectively support the care of sensitive, problematic, and mature skin.
