What is BB cream? Discover the new Orientana

BB Creams - History

The abbreviation "BB" comes from the English language and means " Blemish Balm ", which in free translation means "blemish balm". This enigmatic name comes from the history of this interesting cosmetic, which we will tell below.

German dermatologist (yes – BB creams were created in Germany!) – Dr. Christine Schrammek developed the first BB cream in the second half of the 1960s. She created the product for her patients who had red and irritated skin, wounds and scars after cosmetic procedures (such as microdermabrasion and peeling) or plastic surgery. The product developed by Dr. Schrammek combined care properties and a pigment that helped to cover up redness on the skin – hence the name of the product – “blemish cream”, although today the abbreviation “BB” is also extended as “beauty balm”, which fully reflects the functions of this product.

Many years later – in the 90s – improved BB cream formulas gained huge popularity in South Korea, and later in Japan and throughout Asia. Over the years, the formulas of these products were modified to fit very well into consumer trends and expectations – they ensured a natural complexion while camouflaging imperfections well, had a caring effect and provided effective protection against UV radiation.

In this way, BB cream made its way back to the West, conquering both the skincare and makeup markets.

What exactly is BB cream?

By definition, it is a product that combines the properties of care creams, high UV protection, and makeup bases and foundations. It is therefore a multi-purpose and universal product at the same time.

What is BB cream used for?

  • makeup → modern BB creams are more than just a regular foundation – they should smooth the skin, even out its color, cover up imperfections, while giving the complexion a natural and fresh look. Conventional BB creams contain silicones in their compositions, thanks to which they fill in the depressions and unevenness in the skin, giving the effect of visual smoothing of scars, depressions and fine wrinkles, thus acting at the same time as a smoothing base;
  • care → a big advantage of BB creams over other facial makeup products is that they are rich in skin care ingredients. Most often, these are active ingredients that have moisturizing, antioxidant, nourishing and anti-aging effects;

The butter soothes irritations, accelerates wound healing and supports skin regeneration. It has not only a caring but also rejuvenating effect - it improves the elasticity and firmness of the skin. After applying shea butter to the skin, it becomes soft and smooth, inflammation and redness disappear. Shea butter is often a base in natural cosmetics.
